Modding Doepfer A-132-3

The A-132-3 is one of the almost-perfect utility modules from Doepfer. The idea is simple: it's two VCAs. However, it spares no space and makes the unit playable, while also presenting a lin/exp response option - the latter very useful with stuff like their own Trautoneum ribbon controller's pressure CV.

However, sometimes you want to amplify the same signal with two different CVs to then send it to two different places. And sometimes, you want to amplify two different signals going to two different places with the same CV. In some rare cases, you even want to use the same signal and the same CV - just with different offsets and CV depths for the two halves. In all of these cases, you'd have to use a signal multiple or two. Annoying!

This simple mod makes it so that whatever comes to the upper half of the module is copied over to its lower half as long as it remains unpatched. Upper in to lower in, upper cv to lower cv - it's that simple! And the mod itself takes just a few minutes to complete with no panel unmounting required.

Prepare two thin wires, about 8 cm long each. Strip their ends, twist them into lil' spirals and coat them in solder nicely. Then solder one of their ends precisely to the points shown on the image. The one on the left goes to the hot leg of the CV amount pot and is the upper half's CV - pre-attennuator, of course, since it's the hot leg. The wire on the right goes from some resistor that follows the upper half's signal input jack. You can solder directly to the jacks, but it's cumbersome and not as pretty, so i try avoiding it where possible...
...where not, though, we have to just do it. One wire goes to the normalled signal leg of the lower half's CV input jack, the other to the normalled signal leg of its signal in jack. Take care to not burn the plastic of the jacks while soldering!
At the end of the day, you should end up with something like this.
